The condition of the insulation is essential for secure and reliable operation of your transformer. Measuring capacitance and dissipation/power factor helps you to determine insulation condition in bushings or between windings. Changes in capacitance can, for example, indicate mechanical displacements of windings or partial breakdown in bushings. Aging and degradation of the insulation, coupled with the ingress of water, increase the amount of energy that is converted to heat in the insulation. The rate of these losses is measured as dissipation factor.





A protective relay is a device that monitors system conditions (amps, volts, etc., using CTs and PTs) and reacts to the detection of abnormal conditions. The relay compares the real-time actual quantities against preset programmable threshold values, and sends DC electrical control signals to trip circuit breakers or other opening devices in an effort to clear an abnormal condition on the equipment it is protecting. When system problems are detected and breakers are tripped, alarm indications are sent to system control and sometimes other protection operations are initiated. As a result, equipment may be deenergized, taken off line, and consumers will be out of power with minimal equipment damage. The operation of protective relays is the stabilizing force against the unwanted destabilizing forces that occur in electric power systems when something happens, such as unanticipated power faults and lightning strikes.

SEL cybersecurity services help customers assess, support, and develop control system security infrastructure. Autosynchronization System
SEL Autosynchronization Systems measure voltage and frequency on both the generator and the utiliy system, send proportional correction pulses to adjust the governor and exciter as necessary, and automatically close the breaker on synchronization. This process enables safe, secure, unattended synchronization of generation onto the power system.
Distribution Automation Control System
Automate feeder restoration and reduce outage times with the SEL Distribution Automation Control System. The systen analyzes and detects fault conditions, isolates affected feeder sections, and restores power to unaffected sections. The system includes simple drag-and-drop IEC 61131 function block configuration software on an SEL information processor, with the ability to automate up to six sources and 100 devices.
Model Power System Testing
Improve power system performance in critical applications, validate relay performance, and optimize settings using model power system testing.
